+50 Bad Blogger Points

Sorry!
I know this past month i've been a ridiculously BAD BLOGGER, its my fault i've just been sooo dammed busy! So a short, bullet pointed, list would be a good way of setting it out! (jokes included)

  • OK, so recently i had an amazing revelation as to why my Singer (sewing machine) had been juddering and not working; the shuttle, which on some machines holds the bobbin, was described in the manual the wrong way so all this time i had been putting it in the wrong way round! Since then i have been a crazily addicted to this lovely Singer Symphony. I cant tell you how meany times i have been yawning in class because of late nights sitting at my desk with a hot chocky in one hand and trying to chorale a piece of denim through the machine with the other (and all at the same time my parents yelling at me, telling me how late it is)!
  • I have become a Pellegrino junky. Yep, this one is one of the weirdest, to explain it i'm gonna have to show a picture:
    Does this need a caption?
well i found this lovely little cafe in Derby's Eagle Market, its called Ciao (its Italian so "chao" if you didn't realize) and its only open on saturdays so i try and go as often as i can which i am sorry to say eats up blogging time.
  • My family has been having a new swanky kitchen installed. And well, can you concentrate with loud noises an banging going on downstairs (as my room is above the kitchen)?

As of now, i am starting a new regular post idea; a fortnightly update on the crafty books, magazines and blogs i'm reading. This will be called 'on my bookcase' even though it doesn't really work for the blog part. But hey, it doesn't really matter does it. I'm also starting a group of posts called  M.A.D. which stands for Make A Day because i am trying to make something new each day of the holiday.

See you soon! Love Soph.

Lit Jewellry

Now that I have my camera sorted out I can do arty shots like this. :)
Hi, it's been a while. Sorry, I've just been so busy with school work and I'm having a little 'beader's block' so tomorrow I'm hoping a visit to Spellbound Bead Shop should get my creative juices flowing again. But back to the title, I have been given an incredible opportunity, to display some of my work at Toyota, (yes the car manufacturer) the only condition is that it must have some kind of modern technology. My idea is to do something involving light.

My Ideas:
I'm thinking about using Josephine knots on thin plastic fibre optic cables, to make a lit neclace.
Josephine knots.

Another idea I had was to conceal an LED in an acrylic ring, to light it from the inside.

Shrink Plastic Art!

This weekend I am going to go to the Nottingham bead shop because I have run out of shrink plastic, shrink plastic is a jewelers friend, you can make everything! From rings to pendants to findings* to cabochons. I have an awesome idea for a unique layered ring so expect a quick photo shoot late on Saturday/ early Sunday.

*'findings' is the jewelers jargon for clasps, headpins, crimp tubes and jump rings etc.
Cute band rings! Made by rolling the malleable plastic around a mandrel as soon as it comes out of the oven.
Starry Night printed pendant.
Woven Tiles Bracelet, tutorial coming soon.
Blue Green swirl beaded cabochon.
Red Fox badge/pin by 'amphotica' on Etsy (see bottom of page for link)

Well, I hope this was interesting and inspirational! Shrink plastic is a fantastic medium for art and jewelry, I have a lot of ideas for projects so, watch this space!

He He He! Sugar Rush!

WARNING! WARNING! IF YOU HATE EXTREME AMOUNTS OF KITSCH AND CUTENESS LOOK AWAY NOW!

Pic 1: my favorites are the Hello Kitty(row 1), and the pink butterfly(row 2).
Hello again! Today I had a crazy, wacky idea (probably conceived in a haze of sugar induced hype), you know those canes of polymer clay (Fimo) that some people use to decorate their nails(pic 1), I find it such a waste of skill after all someone has used their hands to sculpt these shapes and they just get chipped off in the end. So I decided to decorate my spare MP3 player (Its the one that doesn't matter if it gets stolen or broken) with them instead, hence pic 2 and 3.

Who would want to steal this?
He He He! LOL!
If I did this to my Samsung my Dad would kill me!

Shapeways Update!

Sorry peeps!I know its been a while but for all us year 9s out there choosing options has not been fun! There are just too many things I want to do, but my blog isn't about me winging, so on with the post:

How cool, geek fashion! I really love the elegance of these dragon wings i think they would go really well with a dark, long dress, not with shorts and a t-shirt, because these are more intriguing glamour than summer cuteness!

Elegant, quirky

My Winter Apparel

Winter fashion is often the cutest, around winter time I used to get annoyed because the end of October meant  packing up all your shorts, blouses and floaty skirts for about a third of a year (thanks to our British weather!), but now I think I have found my inner winter peace. Instead you can just unpack your woolies, get your nice thick jeans out and of course find your boots!

My Eloise scarf from Fat face knitted accessories shop.
These are nice gloves but the added bonus is I can use my Samsung galaxy without taking off my gloves!
Best till last... my vintage docs!

Winter Wonderland! (photo shoot)

I LOVE WINTER,  I love the sound of ice cracking underfoot, I love the trees gilded with silver snow,I love the frosty mornings when the pavement looks like it is coated with diamonds, but most of all I love the fact that now it has snowed again, it is time to show of our new woolies, fish out our beloved boots from under the bed and dress ourselves up in all our lovely winter apparel!

At the end of my street there is a beautiful mini-wood I thought about doing a photo-shoot here but seeing all the snow motivated me to do it straight away so here goes:

A pearl and crystal chain (made by me), a Swarovski cabochon with chainmaile (me) and  a necklace from Switzerland.
A rosewood carved bead from Switzerland
A closer look.
4 in 1 chainmaile weave. (also known as European, because the chainmail armor was made using this weave )

My Deathly Hallows pendant (tutorial coming soon!)
This photo was taken with the DH pendant on a frozen pond.
European chainmaille cuff.
1) Copper hearts Bracelet, 2) Shambala style swarovki crystal bracelet, 3)  Chainmaille cuff
